Stress

Stress is something we call experience from time to time. It can be exhaustion, anxiety, worry and cause temporary changes in mood. Chronic stress however, can lead to fatigue and burnout; and stress from a traumatic event that goes unresolved can lead to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Speaking with a trained professional can sometimes lighten the load…. after all a problem shared is a problem  halved.

Complex Trauma

Complex trauma can sometimes be the result of childhood trauma or adult experiences. It can feel as if you are trapped, can cause you to feel ashamed and make it difficult for you to manage your feelings. It can at times make you use coping strategies like drugs or alcohol. It can make it hard to trust people and create  problems for you in relationships.

Treatment aims to help stabilise you and support you with managing your arousal. It may then be important process traumatic memories.

Workplace Injuries

Workplace injuries may be physical injuries like back injuries or psychological ones such as post-traumatic stress, adjustment, grief and anxiety from experiences like bullying. Lighthouse has trained and experienced Psychologists who are SIRA accredited to work under the NSW Work Cover scheme.

Our aim is to support with adjusting to life after a workplace injury and help you get back into work.

Parenting & Behaviour Management

Parenting is one of the hardest jobs! Effective parenting not only requires skills and resources to respond to children but our own ability to manage ourselves and our reactions as parents.

Clinicians at Lighthouse are trained in different parenting models designed to provide you with parenting support that works! And most are parents themselves bringing an awareness of the challenges on a personal level.

Borderline Personality Disorder

We treat many people presenting with Borderline Personality Disorder. This is where you may feel ’empty’, have trouble managing your emotions, constantly feel as though people will leave you, engage in risk taking behaviour and experience unstable relationships in your life.

Treatment such as DBT group can teach you the skills needed to manage your emotions, cope with difficult intense moments and get along with people more effectively.

Eating Disorders

There are many different types of eating disorders including Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating, Disordered eating, Pica and Avoidant/ Restrictive intake Disorder; and recovery is possible.

ADHD

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is something both children and adults can be diagnosed with. Treatment for ADHD is important and is often a combination of medication and psychotherapy. Therapies like CBT can be effective.

Grief & Loss

One of the most important characteristics of services is the participation of the customer in the service delivery process. A customer has the opportunity to get the services modified according to specific requirement.

Depression & Anxiety

Depression can include symptoms such as changes in mood, difficulty sleeping, changes in appetite, dependence on alcohol or drugs and feelings of hopelessness. Anxiety symptoms can occur at the same time such as overthinking/ worrying, avoidance of people or situations, pain attacks and physiological symptoms like racing heart and restlessness.

Therapies like ACT and CBT can make a difference.

Disability

Lighthouse is a registered NDIS provider providing therapeutic supports to Agency managed, plan-managed and self-managed participants. We have been supporting people with disability for many years offering not only capacity building supports but training and resources.

Child and adolescent mental health services at Lighthouse include assessment and treatment of self-esteem, anxiety, social skills, depressive symptoms, self-harm, challenging behaviour and more.

Couple & Family Therapy

Couples face their own unique challenges, as they try to navigate life together. It’s not always easy and issues do arise. Usually at the core of couples’ issues is a breakdown in communication and partners feeling as though the other doesn’t understand them.

Couples therapy at Lighthouse aims to educate couples on communication strategies, guiding them to use more effective ways of having their needs met. It is a collaborative experience which can have lasting effects on a couples relationship.
